Job Description

These positions are casual / on-call for short term assignments.

You must be available at least 3 days per week.

Assignments are in schools located across the TDSB.

Full-Day Kindergarten and Extended Day Programs

The Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) partners with the Kindergarten Educators to plan and implement a full day Early learning program;

within both a classroom setting and; as a part of the Extended Day Program, to provide supervision and age appropriate programming for groups of students.

The DECE collaborates in the design of programs and environments which will enhance children’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional development.

  • Partnering with the classroom teacher to implement and plan developmentally appropriate large and small group activities
  • Providing supervision and age appropriate programming for groups of students as part of the Full Day and extended day program as required
  • Collaborating to implement the curriculum and to address individual student’s identified needs, stages of development, and interests
  • Communicating with parents / guardians, students, staff, and others

Special Note : Schedules vary from school to school. Extended day and school day may include a running lunch.

Rate of Pay :

Supply hourly rate : $

statutory holiday pay and 4% vacation pay are added to these rates

Temporary hourly rate after completing 30 days : $

Rates effective September 1, 2023

Hours of work : 6 hours per day, scheduled based on program needs

Core day : during the school day between 8 : 00 am - 4 : 30 pm

Extended Day Program schedules :

Early Shift : between 7 : 00 am to 2 : 00 pm

Late Shift : between 11 : 45 am to 6 : 45 pm

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Two-year Community College Early Childhood Education Diploma
  • Six months childcare experience in an educational setting
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR B or C Certification OR
  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR B or C Certification; AND
  • Ability to stand / walk for extended periods and move / carry equipment for program; AND
  • Must be able to physically assist children as required (, lifting)
