Job description

Position Summary :

Heddle Shipyards is the largest Canadian ship repair and construction company on the Great Lakes. The company is embarking on an unprecedented period of growth driven by the opportunities created by Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing major government (i.e., Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy) projects such as Vessel Life Extensions and new build construction projects. The candidate will also be responsible for managing major components of the shipyard modernization project including overseeing the procurement and installation of robotic systems in the shipyard.

Responsibilities :

  • Leads and guides the project team
  • Manages project communication (internal and external)
  • Manages the relationship with client(s)
  • Defines the project’s scope with Tendering Department
  • Develops a project schedule & man-loading document for each assigned project
  • Assigns, prioritizes, and supervises project tasks (i.e. Sets milestones and deadlines)
  • Manages project resources and their costs
  • Tracks project performance using appropriate KPIs and reporting them to the Director of Project Management & Engineering on a weekly basis
  • Implements and manages changes; communicates change orders to the Client
  • Identifies, prevents, and manages risks
  • Submits deliverables and ensures they adhere to quality and industry standards
  • Performs any other relevant, project-related duties when needed
  • Manages and participates in client meetings
  • Ensures customer satisfaction; manages client feedback through the proper channels
  • Communicates with the Production Manager / Supervisors to ensure they have the required information and resources to carry out their tasks effectively
  • Develops continuous improvement practices
  • Serves as a technical resource for the Project Management Department
  • Assists the Purchasing Department with material procurement

Qualifications & Experience :

  • Degree or Diploma in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or similar discipline / field of study
  • 10+ years construction experience as a project manager
  • 10+ years experience in marine repair, maintenance, and / or construction
  • Ability to oversee and coordinate multiple large-scale projects, involving complex work-scopes, numerous stakeholders, in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment
  • High level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to invoke change and buy-in on novel concepts and programs
  • Ability to read and understand engineered design drawings
  • Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel, Word, and Project), CAD, etc.
