POSITION SUMMARY
The Recreation and Parks Operator is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the Town's recreation facilities, parks, and green spaces. This position is seasonal, with responsibilities centered around recreation tasks during the indoor ice season and park-related duties in the spring and summer. The schedule for rotating between departments will vary based on arena schedules, fall weather, and special projects, but every effort will be made to balance the time equally, with ample notice given ahead of the changes in departments. Shift work, including evenings and weekends, is required while working in the Recreation department.
JOB DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assist with the operation and maintenance of recreation facilities, including the Shift Community Recreation Centre, Arena, and Outdoor Ice Surface (Civic Plaza).
- Perform maintenance of park facilities, green spaces, and equipment, such as turf care, filling gopher holes, and maintaining irrigation systems.
- Conduct regular facility inspections and assist with minor repairs and standard maintenance procedures.
- Ensure recreation facilities and grounds are cleaned and maintained regularly.
- Operate equipment including, but not limited to, lawnmowers, weed trimmers, light tractors, snow blowers, single-axle trucks, and Zamboni.
- Install, operate, and repair irrigation systems in parks and green spaces.
- Perform watering, fertilizing, and seeding of boulevards, parks, flower beds, lawns, shrubs, and trees.
- Prepare, plant, and maintain flower beds, shrubs, and trees in parks and green areas.
- Follow all Town policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Identify and report any safety concerns or hazards in Town facilities or properties.
- Carry out other related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or G.E.D.Minimum one year experience in a similar setting.Valid Class 5 Operator’s License.Ability to work independently as well as within a team.Considered assets but willing to train right applicant.
Arena Operator 1 Certification.Pool Operator 1 Certification.Parks & Sports Field 1 Certification.WHMIS.WORKING CONDITIONS
Indoor work in cold environments, including walking on ice surfaces.Outdoor work in varying weather such as heat, cold, dry, dusty, or wet environments, as well as exposure to insects, bees, and wildlife.Moderate physical activity, including bending, lifting, and walking.Operation of various vehicles and equipment, including trucks, Zamboni, and mowers.Regular exposure to water treatment and cleaning chemicals.Lifting or moving objects up to 50 lbs. may be required.A standard workweek consists of 40 hours; however, overtime, evening, and weekend shifts may be required.HEALTH & SAFETY
