A little bit about our team :

Your role :

Reporting to the Director, A&R, Warner Music Canada, the A&R Manager will help grow Warner Music Canada’s roster, while fostering a culture of go-to label for the greatest artists of our times. This role is specifically for our 91 North Records division, focusing on the South Asian music scene.

Here you’ll get to :

Manage and coordinate a full A&R lifecycle from research / recruitment, signing of new artists to recording & production releases. Artists identified for signing should be targeted based on research, analytics, and market data.

Collaborate with the Marketing team to partner on marketing initiatives i.e. create and implement creative strategies of our artists and roster in the way of storytelling, showcasing our talent, utilizing various avenues to bring awareness to these etc.

Meet and correspond with existing artists, producers, and establish a trusted relationship. Provide effective and efficient feedback, data, and assets to artists for their development when required.

Utilize and have a deep comprehension of data, analytics and research tools, including Sodatone.

Liaise with Legal and Artist Management during the deal-making process and possess highly developed negotiation skills to ensure we are competitive and adaptable.

Stay current on new trends, artists, producers, and talent within the music industry via networking and maintaining strong relationships with professionals in the business (managers, agents, promoters, commercial partners, etc.)

Collaborate with the Marketing department to determine the release schedule strategy.

Oversee the logistics for artist video shoots, recording sessions, and production.

Manage budgets and expenses for each project and collaborate with A&R Admin to ensure invoices and expense reports are submitted on a timely basis.

Have comprehensive knowledge of social media platforms where music development and discovery occur.

Coordinate and attend all regular A&R, scheduling, promotions, marketing, and creative meetings to ensure strong communication with local and international teams.

Maintain a professional, consistent, and ethical style of operation, managing with integrity within our company, the creative community and with our artists

Have extensive knowledge of the independent distribution business model, competition, and overall landscape

Assist operations in securing lyrics, writer splits, musician credits and all other necessary label copy

About you :

Self-starter who has a great attitude and a natural ability to build relationships with artists and various stakeholders;

Must have knowledge and ability to properly assess music / artists, and provide appropriate feedback to creative partners.

Have a strong network within the industry with producers, writers & collaborators, mixers, managers, agents, associations, etc.

Knowledge of the South Asian music space

Post-secondary education in Creative Arts, Music, or Business Management is an asset.

4+ years’ experience in music industry, specifically A&R

Strong analytical skills

Strong communication skills

Deep understanding of the digital commerce space including the DSP artist portals and the key artist development and feeder playlists

We’d love it if you also had :

Understanding of song structure

Have a deep understanding and experience with data and research tools including but not limited to Nielsen, DSP analytics, Sodatone, Social and internal data
