The Technology and Engineering Department is responsible for providing the technological solutions for the needs and requirements of our clients, as well as further development of our know-how and technologies (field of expertise) while ensuring compliance with safety requirements, time constraints, climate and environmental aspects, budget and any other challenges presented by the client.
The Structural Engineer is responsible to fulfill the day-to-day engineering duties of the engineering department :
Preparing Quotation
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to understand project requirements and specifications.
- by providing the Sales team with the necessary input and support necessary for the elaboration of the proposals taking into account client’s requirements.
- by providing the Project Management team with the calculations, detailed engineering, specifications, engineering deliverables, and support in order to fulfill our obligations while meeting the project’s budget and schedule, including site assistance (technical support).
- by providing the process team (REEL Alesa ZRH or external) the structural specifications conforming to the technical requirements.
- Being a global solution provider, the Structural Engineer must ensure the deliverables conform to the legal / HSE / technical requirements of the installation site and contractual obligations.
- The Structural Engineer participates in developing new tools and solutions and assists in identifying and implementing ways to be more efficient in fulfilling the team’s duties.
Project engineering
- Perform the proper analysis and calculation of the expected loads, stresses and pressures, taking into account the equipment to be used in the project, the climate & environmental aspect as well as the safety requirements.
- Create the initial structural models using the appropriate computer aided design.
- Support the design team in the elaboration of the structural details.
- Ensure that the drawings are prepared in conformance with the engineering deliverables and that the designs fulfill the HSE, project, contractual and legal requirements relating to the engineering scope.
- On a per need basis, meet the customers together with the project team and visit their sites.
- Coordinate, review and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, sketches, and specifications.
- Approve the drawings by taking the legal responsibility according to the Law on the Engineers of Quebec.
Quality Assurance
Determine the quality requirements (for specific cases) to ensure that the equipment will meet the intended purpose.
Site works
- Carry out the technical site support in conjunction with the client team and proceed to take corrective action if necessary to meet our contractual obligations.
- Perform audits on different equipment and systems and suggest corrective actions if required.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor degree in Structural Engineering
- Professional Engineer (member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
- 5 years experience in the industry or similar
- 3 years experience in all phases of project execution, from the receipt of a RFQ (request for quotation) to work on site
- Experience with installation work and dealing with contractors / unions
- Knowledge and understanding of the structures, buildings and other structural equipment
- Leadership capability
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to manage priorities and work on different projects in parallel
- Knowledge of Revit (Advance Steel), Autocad and Inventor
- Bilingual French and English, spoken and written
