Starting salary is between $ -$5725 based on education and experience
Successful candidate must reside in the Okanagan region.
Job Summary
The purpose this position is to support the principal investigators and the project team in all aspects of a research project working collaboratively with youth and community partners. This is an advanced, multifaceted research position that combines administrative responsibilities with research activities, including the development, coordination and implementation of a multi-phase and multi-method research project, through to completion. Major responsibilities include : collaborating with the principal investigator and research team in the development of strategic work plans and the setting of priorities and goals related to the research project; provides leadership to enhance, promote, and engage youth and community participation in the research program; refining data collection and analysis plans and developing detailed protocols as well as conducting qualitative and quantitative data analysis; coordinating, training, and supervising research assistants in data collection, data management, data analysis; facilitating innovative initiatives to support knowledge translation; assisting with preparation of reports of research findings, and their dissemination; building effective working relationships. This person promotes a safe, respectful working environment for youth, families, communities and staff.
Organizational Status
This project is part of the research program that focuses on early intervention in mental health for youth and young adults and advancing youth engagement in research within the CREATE YMH research lab. This position reports to the Principal Investigator, and works closely with research scientist project leads. Research assistants and youth will report directly to the Research Coordinator. This position will also communicate with the research team and youth and community networks.
Work Performed
Ensures successful management of the research project :
- Manages the research budgets and the research grants by participating in the budget development process, recommending allocation of funds, administering expenditures through the review and approval of invoices and receipts, and liaising with the research finance team in FHSD.
- Oversees the development and management of the research youth and community networks.
- Mentors and empowers young people with lived and living experience on the research team.
- Oversees and coordinates all activities related to the research project and knowledge translation of the products of this research.
- Prepares, composes, edits and proofs grants, reports, and ethics applications to be submitted by the Principal Investigator's for publication, academic proposals and presentations.
- Provides support to the Principal Investigator, the research team, and research assistants; provides leadership in all aspects of these research activities.
- Develops and coordinates strategic work plans, and establishes priorities and timelines for a multi-phase and method research project.
- Works collaboratively with the research team and partners to facilitate implementation of project to support meeting the objectives of the research project.
- Ensures that data is appropriately archived and that multiple data sets are appropriately configured to ensure they can be merged.
- Leads data collection activities, extracts and conducts preliminary analyses.
- Ensures ethical standards of research are followed, monitored and maintained.
- Oversees literature review processes performed by research assistants.
- Develops procedures to support research protocols.
- Monitors workflow and data collection to ensure high quality data collection, tracking and management.
- Organizes and leads orientation and training sessions for research assistants in relation to data collection, data management, data analysis, and preparation of reports.
- Supervises and responsible for all work completed by the research assistants.
- Ensures that project files are appropriately set up and maintained.
- Responds to inquiries from research participants related to on-going research.
- Leads, coordinates and actively participates in project team meetings.
- Designs and facilitates processes for communication and collaboration to support the research team, research assistants and study sites.
- Ensures timely notification of Principal Investigator and team of issues or problems.
- Assists with hiring of research assistants, writing job descriptions, posting position, screening applicants, participating in candidate selection, facilitating appointments, and conducting performance appraisals.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Supervision Received
This position will work under the broad directives of the Principal Investigator and research team. It is imperative that this position work collaboratively and with minimal supervision. They will act independently in performing defined duties from broad objectives and will alert the Principal Investigator to any unusual situations, and problems as they arise or are anticipated.
Supervision Given
This position will be responsible for ensuring the accurate work of 1-6 research assistants, students, and youth research assistants.
Consequence of Error / Judgement
The Principal Investigator associated with this research project will monitor the work of this position. Errors or incorrect decisions could seriously compromise the quality of the research and result in delays in completing projects. Additionally, serious compromises to the quality of the research will jeopardize future funding opportunities. Failure to clearly represent and communicate the work of the research team could result in severed relationships with the funding agency and collaborators. The work of this position must be completed at a high level of accuracy and efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in relevant discipline would be an asset.Experience in youth or community engagement and working with youth and young adults with lived and living experience with mental health or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in youth / community engagement.Experience engaging youth in research.Effective oral and written communication skills including peer reviewed publications and presentations.Ability to manage, supervise and train research staff.Demonstrated ability to speak on behalf of those with lived and living experience in a constructive way.Knowledge of participatory community-based research, planning and analysis skills, and ability to synthesize information from a vast range of sources into practical plans and useful recommendationsProject management experience, successfully managing multi-phase and method research projects through to completion.Ability to exercise initiative and innovative thinking.Computer and data analysis skills (Word processing, EXCEL, Reference Manager or RefWorks, SPSS, Fluid Surveys).Ability to adapt to changing priorities, to multi-task and to meet deadlines.Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.Must be able to travel with a valid driver's license.Experience using and / or adapting to various lab management Softwares.Clean Criminal Record Check and Human ethics approval documentation experience.Training / prior experience with Indigenous communities and concepts of equity, diversity, and inclusion.Effective interpersonal and organizational skillsBenefits
