Scope

Community Arts is hiring a Dance Instructor to develop and instruct summer dance camps for children ages 8-11 in July to August, Mondays-Friday. The program will explore various disciplines (from ballet to hip hop). Our Dance Instructors may also be considered for opportunities to other dance programs to preschool, children, youth and adult participants throughout the year.

Responsibilities

Are you passionate about teaching dance skills to a variety of ages? Join the City of Surrey's Culture division and contribute to the innovation and growth of our arts community through your development and instruction of performing arts programs. You will be responsible for the submission of detailed lesson plans and supply lists, as well as for the set-up and clean-up of each class. You will be tasked with maintaining the safety of participants in the classes and upholding the high quality and professionalism of the City of Surrey. You will work directly with the Performing Arts Programmer, other art educators and instructors, volunteers, and staff. You will have excellent customer skills, high energy, and an enthusiastic approach to your work.

Required skills include :

  • Able to assess age appropriateness of lessons and materials and modify lessons as needed based on student's abilities
  • Provide instruction in a variety of settings including both in studio as well as outdoor.
  • Strong communication and interacting with participants.
  • Solid interpersonal skills.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Qualifications

We're looking for dynamic, creative leaders with demonstrated knowledge and experience in theatre and theatre education. Our ideal candidates are effective communicators with excellent interpersonal, strong classroom management skills and a demonstrated ability to create an inclusive environment.

The successful candidate must have :

  • A degree / diploma in Dance, Performance or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Certified RAD Instructor, having completed at least Advanced 2.
  • Minimum of two years previous teaching experience in dance and demonstrated understanding of child development particularly in the areas of artistic expression.
  • Successful completion of a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • A current Emergency First Aid with CPR-C / AED certificate.
  • This position works July 14-18 and August 11-15. Shifts are dependant on registration.
