We are seeking a Joint Ventures Analyst  to join the Joint Venture Management Team. This position reports to the Director of Joint Venture Management and supports the Joint Venture Management Team with various activities to ensure NOVA Chemicals is complying with Joint Venture (JV) agreements. In this role you will coordinate audit activities, internal financial analysis, cost recovery, continuous improvement and provide backup coverage to the operations finance team in Red Deer, Alberta.

This position is located at our NOVA Head Office in Calgary, Alberta.

You Will Use Your Expertise To :

  • Support the Joint Venture team as the primary accounting resource for the JV Managers and working with other various groups across NOVA Chemicals
  • Act as the primary internal and external contact for JV audits
  • Coordinate and oversee annual JV audits and prepare responses / resolutions to findings
  • Respond to JV Management and Legal requests as required
  • Deliver analysis and recommendations to support JV business initiatives and strategies including fixed and variable cost saving / recovery
  • Provide assurance for accuracy and contractual compliance on all cost assessments and allocations for the JVs, and support NOVA Chemicals cost center change management requirements in relation to JV Agreement obligations
  • Participate in JV financial reporting analysis, annual budgeting, capital approval process and ongoing analysis of spending and forecasting
  • Provide informal leadership through mentoring, training, and coaching to other team members

What We Are Looking For :

  • University graduate or equivalent with 10+ years progressive experience in accounting and joint ventures OR 14+ years combination of post-secondary education and related experience.
  • Professional accounting / business designation would be considered an asset (CPA is preferred)
  • In-depth knowledge of complex accounting issues such as feedstock flows, intercompany transactions, and external billings
  • Experience with Joint Ventures and Contract Compliance
  • Expertise in spreadsheet modeling, SAP, and other Microsoft office software
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills
  • Ability to show initiative and perform independently
  • Ability to remain focused while balancing competing priorities
  • Ability to apply skills and knowledge to changing issues and situations
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization
