RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre.
Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University.
The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Position summary
We are seeking a highly motivated, organized and detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills who will work under the direction of the Director of the Biobank Platform and under the supervision of the Manager of the platforms at the Centre for Translational Biology.
The Biobank Platform has a mission to collect and store biological samples and associated clinical and research data from participants at the MUHC who have provided informed consent, and to manage / accommodate requests for samples and data from internal and external investigators.
The successful applicant will play a key role in the operation of this platform.
General Duties
- Participate in the development and operations of the databases and of the biobank,
- Obtain informed consent from participants explain study and answer questions,
- Administer and record answers for patient questionnaires,
- Collect tissue, blood, bodily fluid and other biological samples from patients who have provided informed consent for biobanking,
- Process collected samples according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and store in standard biobank systems,
- Retrieve stored samples upon request,
- Perform analyses of stored samples,
- Retrieve clinical information from medical charts and electronic records and enter specific information into biobank data systems,
- Perform database maintenance and quality control,
- Prepare reports on completed tasks,
- Complete all other relevant tasks as assigned by supervisor and / or director.

Education / Experience
- preferred. Foreign medical graduates (with valid work visa) are welcome to apply,
- Previous experience working in a research and / or clinical / healthcare environment, including interaction with patients and clinical personnel (nurses, technicians and physicians),
- Working knowledge and experience with basic laboratory techniques,
- Ability to work independently,
- Strong interpersonal skills and motivation,
- Good communication skills (English and French, spoken and written),
- Working knowledge of PC word processing and spreadsheet software.
