Position Title : Director, Group Special Projects
Reports To : VP, Group Finance and Actuarial
Department : Group Actuarial
Term : Permanent Full-Time
Work Arrangements : This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.
The Opportunity : Equitable is growing! We are looking for a Director, Group Special Projects to join our Group Actuarial team! This position plays a role in driving the growth and profitability of the Group Benefits line of business by contributing to the pricing and financial management functions for the division.
What you will be doing :
- Direct pricing and product development initiatives
- Pricing of Group Life & Health products, ensuring products are marketable and will contribute to the profitability of the company
- Recommending pricing changes and assumption updates to address emerging experience trends and market changes
- Ensuring the sound interpretation and application of actuarial theories and techniques
- Data management and analytics
- Review and recommend changes to existing standardized reporting
- Develop new reporting to better identify risks or opportunities to Group’s growth and profitability
- Identify opportunities and implement predictive analytics into the pricing basis
- Review and update pricing adjustments that underwriters use to price quotes and renewals for plan design changes, missing data, etc.
- Create or update tools used by underwriting to improve efficiency and / or to improve accuracy of pricing
What you will bring :
Degree in Mathematics or equivalent and completion of FSA, FCIA requirements is requiredMinimum 5 years insurance experience, preferably including some experience in GroupExtensive knowledge of all aspects of the Group Life & Health business including Actuarial methods and Underwriting practicesRequire technical competence in Excel and other actuarial toolsAbility to coach and mentor staff in both their professional and leadership developmentStrong communication and interpersonal skillsWhat’s in it for you :
