Program Overview Child Care & Family Services (Morse St. Child Care)
This position is responsible for performing food service / housekeeping related duties. This position is further responsible for supervision of children as assigned, in conjunction with program staff.
This position will contribute to the smooth operation of the child care program by performing the duties outlined below.
What You Will Do
- Assist in supervision of children as assigned.
- Ensure the safety, health and well-being of the children under care.
- Ensure that child care areas are disinfected on a regular basis including tables, chairs, cupboards, counter tops, cubbies, etc.
- Ensure that kitchen areas are disinfected on a regular basis which includes cupboards, counter tops, stove tops, refrigerators, etc.
Complete all required documentation records including fridge and dishwasher temperatures and appropriate cleaning logs.
- Responsible for assisting in wiping tables before meals / snacks, setting tables, clearing and disinfecting tables following meals / snacks, and assisting in the serving of meals / snacks as required.
- Responsible for doing laundry according to schedule and in emergency as required.
- Responsible for doing dishes according to schedule.
- Responsible for disinfecting toys according to schedule.
- Responsible for preparing / handling food in a hygienic manner and for ensuring that all food is kept at appropriate temperatures until it is served.
Complete all required documentation records including food and fridge temperatures.
- Responsible for working in cooperation with other staff to maintain high standards of operation.
- Attend staff meetings and training as required.
- Responsible for the upkeep of equipment and furnishings, for informing the Manager or Assistant Supervisors when replenishment is necessary, and for assessing equipment needs and making recommendations regarding purchases.
- Responsible for keeping track of kitchen / laundry supplies and for informing Manager or Assistant Supervisor when replenishment is necessary.
- Responsible for upgrading training and education as directed by WoodGreen Community Services to fulfil the responsibilities of the job.
- Ensures the anti-racism objectives and community development principles of the organization are achieved within the program.
- Responsible for abiding by the Child Care and Family Services Unit’s and WoodGreen’s policies and other regulations as stated in the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 and the City of Toronto’s AQI (Assessment for Quality Improvement) criteria document.
This includes Behaviour Management / Child Guidance Policies.
- Participates in regular supervisory sessions with the Manager.
- Performs other related duties as required from time to time.
What You Bring to the Team
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Standard First Aid / CPR-C certification
- Valid Food Handling Certificate
- Up to date Immunization records and TB test required

- Ability to use initiative on a daily to respond promptly to children’s needs and changing situations. Routines, guidelines are established and Manager or Assistant supervisor or RECE staff is available at all times.

- Ability to carry / lift children and carry / lift / move moderate-to-heavy items
- Ability to communicate orally with children, parents, and staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information related to children, parents, staff.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time; to work at the height of children
- Ability to work some overtime
- Willingness to work in conditions involving exposure to : bodily fluids, infectious diseases; frequent high noise levels;
occasional inclement weather.
Ability to work with chemical substances contained in cleaning supplies.
