Education : Bachelor's degree.

Work Setting : Private practice.

Responsibilities

Tasks

  • Advise clients of their legal rights and all matters related to law.
  • Perform administrative functions related to the practice of law.
  • Perform management functions related to the practice of law.
  • Plead clients' cases before courts of law, tribunals, and boards (lawyers only).
  • Draw up legal documents and prepare statements of legal opinion.
  • Negotiate settlements of civil disputes (lawyers only).
  • Represent interests of corporation / employer in all business related to legal matters.
  • Act as executor, trustee or guardian in estate matters.
  • Research legal precedents and gather evidence.
  • Write and edit for legal publications.
  • Prepare wills, real estate transactions, and other legal documents, court reports, and affidavits.

Minimum Requirements

Experience : 5 years or more.

Certificates, Licences, Memberships :

  • Membership in the Canadian Bar Association.
  • Membership in a provincial or territorial law society.
