SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Manager of the Engineering team, the Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for management of design team staff and delivery of all engineering design projects. This will include all steps of the HVAC design process including the oversight of Drawing production and development of Specifications, construction administration, and commissioning.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Mechanical equipment replacements (typically boilers, AHUs, RTUs).
  • Mechanical designs for small to medium commercial facilities.
  • Prepare drawings, schematics, specification reports, and proposals as required.
  • Work with project team to ensure on-time project completion.
  • Provide technical and administrative support through all phases of the project.
  • Participate in meetings, prepare agendas, and minutes.
  • Oversee junior design staff and CAD operators.
  • Collaborate with the commissioning and building performance teams to solve mechanical system issues.
  • Mechanical tenant fit-up designs (ductwork, piping, plumbing and drainage, sprinklers).
  • Mechanical systems assessments for systems in existing buildings.
  • Mechanical systems design for new buildings (not typical).
  • Energy assessments / audits of existing buildings (some involvement).
  • Electrical tenant fit-up designs.
  • Review of mechanical designs.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Capable of autonomous work on projects and developing designs; must be self-disciplined.
  • University graduation or professional certification.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel infrequently to review project construction across Canada, typically located in the GTA region.
  • Self-sufficient and self-disciplined designer requiring minimum supervision.
  • Experience in design and installation of small commercial systems such as Roof Top Unit, pumps, boilers, electrical outlets, office lighting systems, and Split-Unit systems.
  • Experience with building control systems (JCI, Honeywell, Siemens, Delta, Trane, etc.).
  • Ability to collaborate with coworkers and drafting professionals to create high-quality Drawings and Specifications.
  • Skills in using CAD tools such as AutoCAD.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Suites efficiently.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and successfully complete deliverables.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Analytical, thorough, resourceful, and detail-oriented.
  • Team and customer service-focused.
  • Proficiency with energy modeling calculations and simulations.
  • Experience in P3 project design.
  • Experience with LEED and sustainability concepts is an asset.
  • Experience with renewable energy design is an asset.
  • Proficiency in French is an asset.
  • Licenses and / or Professional Accreditation

  • Ontario Professional Engineer (P.Eng. PEO) is required.
  • Engineering license in other provinces is an asset.
  • Certification such as LEED, CEM, or PMP are assets.
  • Driver’s license.
