10 Application Deadline : November 15, 2024 by 11 : 59 pm Program Overview Live-In Treatment Program Turning Point Youth Services (TPYS) is an accredited, non-profit agency serving youth (12 to 24 years of age) and their families in the east end of Toronto.

Turning Point’s mission is to empower youth to make positive change, an to accomplish this, it offers a continuum of services for youth and their families with a focus on mental health, housing / sheltering, and youth justice.

Turning Point Youth Services and WoodGreen Community Services announced on July 2, 2024 the integration of the two organizations.

The combination of these two agencies will enable a more effective and integrated approach to the provision of comprehensive support services for youth in the GTA.

Our Shelter program provides homeless and street involved male and transgender (who identify as male) youth, ages 16 to 24) with food, accommodation and information counselling in a safe, structured, and inclusive environment.

Programming within the Shelter focuses on addressing the basic needs of youth, developing independent skills, and reconnecting youth to community resources, recreation and leisure activities.

The shelter staff work collaboratively with other community resources involved with the youth to coordinate case management plans and ensure that the client’s needs are being met.

What You Will Do Incorporate in your work a strengths-based relationship-based philosophy of care and a belief in the resilience of youth.

Provide direct, client care and supervision to clients in the shelter program. Perform the duties of a Primary Worker for assigned clients.

Promote and integrate Youth and Family Engagement. Facilitate relevant referrals for residents to community-based services.

Develop, implement, and evaluate group programming for residents. Promote an environment of inclusion that promotes equity and respects diversity.

Develop and deliver activities and therapeutic programs. Ensure the safety and well-being of the residents in the facility.

Complete reports, documentation, and data entry as needed, ensuring that client records are accurately recorded in the Shelter Management Information System (SMIS) Participate in the day-to-day operation of the facility.

Evening shift work is required. Perform other duties as required. What You Bring to the Team Diploma or degree in a related field (i.

e.; BSW, CYW, SSW, etc.) Minimum of 1 year of experience working with homeless adolescents / youth, preferably in a shelter setting Demonstrated knowledge and experience with at risk adolescents and young adults Understanding of the complex issues facing our clients Sound knowledge of the issues facing homeless and street-involved youth, as well as community resources Demonstrated understanding of the complex issues and challenges facing our clients.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience with at risk adolescents and young adults. Ability to exercise professionalism and sound judgement in conflictual and stressful situations.

Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Excellent communication, organization, administrative and computer skills.

Able to work well as part of a team Valid Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour certification. Valid First Aid / CPR certification Completion of required suicide prevention and intervention training as per Shelter Standards.

What Will Set You Apart Appreciation of the importance of engaging youth and families from a strength-based relationship-based approach.

Sensitivity to, and ability to work with, a diverse client and staff group. Ability to demonstrate an anti-oppression approach to practice and work from a client-centered, anti-racism, harm reduction, and trauma informed approach is required.

Demonstrate knowledge of issues affecting marginalized communities, policies, legislation, programs, and other issues related to scope of practice and social determinants of health.

Experience working with diverse and marginalized communities, including ethno-cultural and religious groups, LGBTQSS+ youth and youth adults, those impacted by poverty and those involved in youth justice.
