Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The role of the Public Works Labourer is to work within maintenance standards, programs and plans established by the Public Works Foreman. This position also supports the maintenance and repairs of equipment, roads, sidewalks and other infrastructure for the Town.
JOB DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Support the Public Works team in the maintenance of roads, sidewalks, storm sewer, street drainage, curb and gutter, cemetery operations as well as associated construction activities.
- Carry out work assignments using a variety of equipment, hand and power tools.
- Responsible for the safe and effective use of equipment and selects the correct equipment to perform all jobs.
- Responsible for sidewalk concrete replacement, pothole and patching of roads, barricade installation and removal, alley maintenance, ditch and swale maintenance, street sweeping, crack filling and line painting.
- Snow clearing and snow removal including; road, sidewalk clearing and snow fence installation and take down.
- Oversee the daily work schedules and work quality of summer public works staff.
- Maintain and replace road signs.
- Assist in water and sewer operations.
- Be available for on call rotation as needed.
- Perform other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS
Class 3 driver’s license with Q endorsement is an asset but we are willing to train a candidate with a valid class 5.Ability to work independently as well as within a team.Knowledge of road construction, maintenance activities and safety procedures or the desire to learn this trade.Knowledge with standard business software (Microsoft Office).Heavy equipment operating experience is an asset but not required as we are willing to train the right person.WORKING CONDITIONS
Subject to working in outdoor environment – heat, cold, dry, dusty and / or wet conditions as well as insects, bees and wildlifeSubject to working in the roadways and affected by both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.Moderate amounts of physical effort including bending, lifting, and walking.Use and safe operation of a variety of vehicles including trucks and tractors.Use of a variety of hand and power tools.Capable of lifting 50 pounds.Normal working day consists of 8 hours; however occasional overtime may be requiredRequirements
