Law Society of British Columbia

Location : Vancouver, BC

The Law Society is located on the traditional territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, specifically the territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), səlilwətaɬ(Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) First Nations.

The Law Society of British Columbia regulates the legal profession in BC, protecting the public interest in the administration of justice by setting and enforcing standards of professional conduct for lawyers.

Importantly, the Law Society also brings a voice to issues affecting the justice system and the delivery of legal services.

With over 200 employees, the Law Society responds to public concerns and complaints about lawyers and ensures lawyers meet their professional obligations by enforcing professional standards and providing assistance to the legal profession.

Enhancing public confidence in the legal profession is a key objective of the Law Society. This rich professional landscape is made even more interesting by virtue of new provincial legislation establishing a single regulator for all legal service providers in the province.

With the conclusion of a successful tenure of the incumbent, the Law Society is now looking for its next Executive Director / Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

This is a multi-faceted role that focuses not only on legal and policy issues associated with the enforcement of the highest standards for practicing lawyers and ensuring the protection of public interest, but also on ensuring the efficient and effective operation of a complex organization.

Reporting to a board (the Benchers), the next CEO will bring a successful background as a lawyer in a complex environment where they have a demonstrated track record of managing and motivating lawyers and / or staff to achieve organizational objectives.

With a keen awareness of the issues affecting the legal profession, and superb conceptual, communications and leadership skills, this is an exciting opportunity for a leader with a depth of character, who enjoys working with a board and staff in a collaborative and transparent team setting during a time of change.

This role is based in Vancouver, BC.
