  • Every year over 5000 individuals and families build better connections with the land through the Ignatius Jesuit Centre’s (IJC)’s retreats, trainings, farm products, trails, and land-based initiatives. IJC’s mission is to cultivate spiritual growth and ecological engagement. IJC’s 640-acre property has three main programs which include Loyola House, a world-class retreat & training centre, Ignatius Farm, a community organic training farm offering local access to land and food, and the Old-Growth Forest, a 94-acre conservation and education initiative.

    Who we are looking for :

    We are looking for Board members who are interested in rolling up their sleeves and getting involved to promote IJC Mission and Vision.

    Board members with expertise, knowledge and / or learned experience in the following areas will help strengthen IJC’s ability to fulfill its mission and vision :

  • Ecological stewardship and land conservation
  • Agriculture
  • Community and Program development
  • Human Resources
  • Indigenous relationship development
  • Accounting / Financial
  • Legal
  • Fundraising / philanthropic
  • Youth (aged 18 – 29)
  • Previous board experience is not necessary.

    We aim for our Board to encompass diverse voices, backgrounds and perspectives.

    Time Commitment :

    This voluntary commitment involves attending one Board meeting (1.5-2 h) per month as well as one Committee meeting per month (1.5- 2 h), except December, July and August. Each Board member is asked to join one Committee. Committees include Financial, Governance, Land, Human Resources and Fundraising. A board term is 3 years, and it can be renewed for up to three (3) terms. Time in between meetings is required for preparation and reflection.

    Responsibilities of IJC Board Member :

  • Provide strategic leadership
  • Be knowledgeable about IJC’s mission, vision, values, programs, risk management plan and long-term objectives.
  • Monitor and assess organizational performance
  • Ensure IJC has sufficient resources to carry out its mission
  • Understand fiscal, staff, reputation and community implications of decisions
  • Share knowledge, engage in critical thought and meaningful conversation around complex issues
  • Work closely with other directors and be part of at least on Committee
  • Actively engage in Board meetings
  • Be an ambassador and promote IJC’ work in the community
  • Support the Board Chair, Executive Director and Directors of Operations
  • Ensure no conflicts or interest exist and that duties are upheld.
