Amongst them, the use of low-cost deposition methods alongside confirmed long-term operational stability of devices is critical for market entry.

Job Description

Solaires is looking for a Perovskite Formulation Scientist to support the product development team at our Victoria lab reporting to the Director, Research and Product Development. The Perovskite Formulation Scientist will work hands-on in the lab directly with our scientists and is responsible for coming up with new perovskite formulations which are compatible for flexible substrates for both indoor and outdoor applications. The Perovskite Formulation Scientist will be fabricating coatings using scalable techniques like slot die and blade coating for the semi-finished and finished products for the commercialization. The individual will maintain the quality assurance process, record and analyze the results gathered during product development and manufacturing.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position include :

  • Develop new perovskite formulations based on scalable solvents (green solvents) compatible for slot die coating on flexible substrates
  • Fabrication of good quality perovskite coatings; continuous optimization to get uniform, high quality crystals for good performance and stability of the devices
  • Investigate and apply various additives, solvents, and precursor materials to enhance the properties of perovskite films
  • Development of other organic / inorganic semiconductor materials for the device stack with scalable materials and processes for flexible substrates
  • Evaluate the long-term stability of flexible perovskite solar cells, including exposure to UV light, moisture, and mechanical stress
  • Scale up the protocols and processes from lab scale to the manufacturing scale, update equipment and processes according to the latest production specifications of the industry
  • Generate and maintain documentation such as SOPs, QCs based on each iteration to have high degree of  reproducibility, quality and reliability

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position include :

  • Experience with solution based coating techniques like blade coating, slot die coating, etc. over large area
  • Familiarity with flexible substrates (e.g., PET, PEN, etc.) and their integration into solar cell devices
  • Experience with material characterization techniques (e.g., UV-Vis, XRD, SEM, EIS, J-V measurements) and device performance testing
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment
  • Highly skilled in reporting results with a good familiarity with spreadsheets and other data analysis software
  • Entrepreneurial mindset to be in a start-up environment, flexible to adapt to tasks based on demands within the company

  • Academic Requirements

    Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or related field with a focus on perovskite materials, thin films, or renewable energy devices. Alternatively, a Master's degree with significant industry experience in the relevant field will also be considered.
