The Role
The Purchasing Manager will lead purchasing of products and services, manage supplier relationships, act as the primary point of contact for business stakeholders, ensure on time delivery of products, and negotiate with suppliers for favorable price, quality, delivery, and payment terms. A combination of strong business acumen and leadership skills within an industrial manufacturing business environment along with the ability to foster long term internal and external partnership relationships are imperatives for the success of this role. This position reports to Canadian Director, Operations and will lead a Purchasing team in Oakville.
As Purchasing Manager, you will work closely with Global Strategic Sourcing Director, General Managers in all our Manufacturing Plants (Oakville, Orillia, Edmonton, Calgary, Fort McMurray) as well as with Production Team to work on cost savings measures.
As a Purchasing Manager you will be working from Thermon Canada plant located in Oakville, Ontario.
What You Will Do
- Lead and mentor a team of purchasing professionals in Oakville.
- Develop and implement strategies for procuring, storing, distributing, and maintaining goods and or services.
- Develop, qualify, and maintain suppliers to deliver products and services according to engineering and quality specifications.
- Work closely with Global Strategic Sourcing to execute supplier development and qualification as per Sourcing Strategy. Enable profitable growth and global reach.
- Manage and oversee all procurement functions, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services.
- Expedite and follow up on procurement matters to avoid delays and ensure deadlines are met.
- Drive negotiation of contracts and pricing with suppliers to ensure the best value for the company.
- Ensure compliance with ASME standards and other relevant codes.
- Handle global sourcing, including identifying and managing international suppliers within a multi-tier supply chain.
- Analyze supplier capabilities, capacity, compliance, risks, etc. to ensure production continuity.
- Lead supplier performance assessments, monitoring, and timely corrective actions.
- Issue Purchase Orders and ensure on time delivery of products and or services.
- Monitor and resolve supplier payment issues.
- Create and distribute reports pertaining to planned orders, released demands, shortages, schedule changes, inventory, and supplier payments.
- Monitor business trends and product availability to optimize total landed cost without sacrificing quality or delivery times.
- Promote Purchasing continuous improvement projects at Thermon and at suppliers for lead time reduction, cost reduction, and process compliance.
- Regularly review and remain current on Operating Procedures, Quality Procedures, Manufacturing Procedures and Engineering requirements.
- Develop and implement procurement policies, procedures, and instructions.
- Work closely with Manufacturing Operations, Engineering, and Quality organizations to execute on various supplier development projects.
- Evaluate and enforce inventory thresholds, turns and trends while maintaining an industry standard on time performance for our customers.
- Act as a key liaison for internal stakeholders and suppliers.

Minimum ten (10) years of hands-on experience in leading purchasing for large industrial manufacturing companies.Minimum five (5) years of successful team leadership experience and minimum of 5 years of dedicated experience within a company, with a proven track record of staying committed to long-term goals and projects.Proven experience in complex manufacturing and engineering project management, ideally within an engineering company or within oil, gas or automotive industry.Experience working in the Canadian (North American) market, with an understanding of local industry standards and practices.Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in metal fabrication and working with metals, with a deep understanding of ASME standards and codes.Utilization of ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics) for procurement activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of data entry.Previous experience working in an international supply chain environment, handling global sourcing across multiple regions.Strong understanding of engineering workflows and technical requirements within a procurement context.Demonstrated skills in negotiations and relationship building.Procurement certifications preferred (CPSM, CSCP, etc.)Company Description
