About Invictus Games :

The Invictus Games is a biennial international adaptive sporting competition for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans from around the world. Through the power of sport, the Games inspire recovery, support rehabilitation, and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who have served their country.

The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler will take place from February 8 to 16, , on the traditional territories of the Lil ̓ wat7 ú l (L í l ̓ wat), x ʷ m ə θ k ʷə y ̓ə m (Musqueam), S ḵ wx ̱ w ú 7mesh (Squamish) and s ə lilw ə ta ɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Over wounded, injured and sick service personnel and Veterans from more than 20 nations are set to compete in a wide range of adaptive sports, including adaptive winter sports, for the first time in Invictus Games history.

The Vancouver Whistler Games Corporation (VWGC) is a Canadian not-for-profit organization established to organize and host the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler .

The Role

The Protocol Coordinator for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler will play a crucial role in overseeing, managing, and ensuring the successful implementation of protocol operations. Reporting to the Protocol Manager, they will be responsible for coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure a seamless experience for all Distinguished Visitors (DV), including domestic and international dignitaries. The individual will work closely with functional areas such as Accommodations, Transportation, Family and Friends, Venue Management, Security, and Sport Presentation to coordinate the needs and requirements for DVs before and during the Games.

Key Areas of Responsibility :

  • Assist in the planning of protocol operations for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, as well as for all sports competitions during the Games.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for foreign Games guest delegations, as well as Federal, Provincial, Indigenous, and Municipal delegations.
  • Coordinate travel, accommodations, and support for delegations from relevant organizations as required.
  • Support the Protocol Manager in managing the medal ceremony presenter program, ensuring alignment with partnership agreements.
  • Provide assistance to delegations and serve as their first point of contact for any inquiries or support needed.
  • Collaborate with venue managers to coordinate meetings, space requests, and bilateral meetings during the Games.
  • Create operational documents, templates, tender documents, and briefs as required. Assist in the development of Games-time training and oversight of protocol volunteers.
  • Proactively identify emerging issues and lead the resolution process across functional areas and external stakeholders.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, Competencies :

  • Proven experience in protocol management, government relations, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of International Protocol processes, procedures, and best practices.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at various levels.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple requests simultaneously.
  • Multilingual skills considered an asset.
  • Excellent public presentation skills and written communication abilities.
  • Proven leadership in managing teams or volunteers.
  • Highly organized individual capable of managing sensitive and secure data.
  • Promotes collaboration, teamwork, tactfulness, diplomacy, integrity, honesty, and respect for others.
