Job description

Position Overview

A Dentist is needed to provide weekly dental services at a local detention facility. Extractions, root canals, and fillings will be regular services, as well as providing pain management relief and responding to dental injuries from trauma and long-standing complex chronic dental health concerns. Health education and teaching will also be an important part of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary dental care, including x-rays and health promotions to inmates.
  • Manage all aspects of dental care services, including coordination of care provided by dental specialists to ensure continuity and integration of care.
  • Document all dental care in the dental records folder in compliance with relevant legislation and professional standards of practice, including dental assessments, treatment, and consultations.
  • Provide urgent dental services for patients.
  • Diagnose and treat acute dental conditions and / or injuries.
  • Assess and manage pain secondary to dental problems appropriately.
  • Treat and prevent infections due to dental problems.
  • Address any dental problem that makes it impracticable for a patient to masticate.

Qualifications

  • Holds a certificate of registration issued by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO).
  • Minimum of three years of experience providing dental services.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Ability to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check and an OPP Security Screening Level 3.
  • Experience working with people with addictions.
  • Experience working with people experiencing mental health issues.
  • Experience with urgent / acute dental care.
  • Experience in providing dental care for marginalized and diverse populations, including those who have experienced trauma.
