The Role

In a multi-disciplinary engineering team, the thermal analyst contributes to the development of state-of-the-art spacecraft & spacecraft subsystems by creating thermal designs, performing analysis and planning qualification tests thus ensuring the products meet their thermal requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Select appropriate thermal protections & active or passive thermal control hardware, surface finishes and interfaces.
  • Conduct detailed modeling and simulations.
  • Predict temperature distributions and heat loads in the hardware at different stages of the product life : launch, orbital transition, and on-orbit.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate thermal systems into spacecraft design.
  • Based on evaluation of space hardware's thermal behaviour and characteristics, recommend best mechanical design.
  • Plan thermal environment tests to qualify novel thermal designs or validate equipment thermal design.
  • Make sure the hardware is safe and functional in the required thermal environments.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentation document to support design reviews and customer interaction.
  • The senior analyst may be called to supervise junior analysts.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise and review the thermal aspects of subcontracted systems.

Requirements (experience / skills)

The candidate should meet the following requirements :

  • At least 10 years of experience in thermal analysis and generation of thermal math model (TMM) preferably with Nx / “Space Systems Thermal” (or “TMG”).
  • Knowledge of thermal issues & solutions specific to electronic equipment.
  • Demonstrated track record in delivering successful spacecraft or spacecraft subsystem thermal designs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of space environments and experience in the space industry is a critical asset.
  • Ability to identify key issues in designs and prioritizing them accordingly.
  • Ability to interface with specialists of other disciplines, notably “systems” specialists, to identify the best overall designs.
  • Multi-tasking capability.
  • Ability to work under tight schedule.
  • Ability to express himself / herself orally and in writing in French & English.
  • Education

  • As a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering or equivalent is required.
  • Special Considerations

    Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the Reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP), and be able to obtain higher clearances.
