Clinical Educator

The Renfrew Victoria Hospital (RVH) is a 55-bed, fully accredited facility located just 45 minutes west of Ottawa, serving a catchment area of over 60,000. Part of the Renfrew and Area Health Village, RVH provides medical, surgical and complex continuing care as well as extensive ambulatory care with over 30,000 emergency and clinic visits per year.

St. Francis Memorial Hospital (SFMH) is a 20-bed, fully accredited facility located in the town of Barry’s Bay serving a catchment area of over 10,000 residents with medical and complex continuing care, and over 12,000 ED visits per year. We both use EPIC EMR, which connects us to most hospitals in our region.

Come join us! We are hiring a Permanent Full-Time (Non-Union) Integrated Corporate / Clinical Educator.

Reporting to the CNE at RVH and SFMH, you will provide leadership, support, advice, guidance and feedback regarding professional practice, performance and education.

Duties will include but are not limited to :

Act as an educator, mentor and clinical expert for staff and physicians in specific clinical areas, to improve and support patient care.

Plan, implement and evaluate needs-based continuing education for staff and clinical partners to promote quality patient care.

Coordinate with senior leadership to deliver all Corporate and Nursing Orientations

Organize and facilitate various external certificate programs e.g., BLS, CPR

Manage our LMS (learning management system), assigning training and creating / updating modules as required.

Partner to make available various learning opportunities such as EDI, some mock codes etc.

Research and implement changes to Clinical Skills Manual to meet best practice guidelines

Actively participate on committees in-house (such as Nursing Professional Practice Committee), regionally and provincially

Maintain training records of courses and in-services.

Lead some aspects, participate in, and support Accreditation preparations

Qualifications :

Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.

  • RN in good standing with the C.N.O. (CNA certification in critical care, recent experience in emergency nursing an asset)
  • Formal education in adult learning an asset; and / or demonstrated experience
  • Current CPR, PALS and ACLS certification
  • Minimum 5 years nursing experience in medical or surgical or critical care required, combined with 7 years health care experience.
  • Familiarity with relevant bodies of authority who may release updates in clinical practice guidelines
  • Understanding of both clinical and administrative functions, workflows and processes within a health care setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in an oral and written format with physicians, colleagues and other clinical and non-clinical disciplines
  • Strong organizational, time management, leadership skills.
  • Good command of EMR (Epic an asset), Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Access to a vehicle for travel between RVH and SFMH
