Job Summary
The Team :
The Health and Safety Specialists Unit (HSSU), in the newly formed Ministry of Mining and Critical Minerals, is a close-knit, multidisciplinary team committed to ensuring the health and safety of mine workers in BC. With a diverse range of expertise, including ergonomics, mechanical and electrical safety, occupational health, and more, the team works collaboratively to verify and promote compliance with the Health, Safety, and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC. They play a vital role in preventing workplace illness and injury, making sure that mine workers return home safely after each shift, all while fostering a supportive and respectful work environment.
The Role :
As the Inspector of Mines - Mechanical, you will work closely with the senior mechanical inspector to support the mechanical team's goals, focusing on ensuring mines comply with the health and safety regulations related to mechanical safety. Your primary responsibilities will include conducting inspections to verify compliance, supporting regulatory development, and reviewing variance requests. This position offers a unique opportunity to apply your mechanical expertise in a variety of areas, from inspections to examining new technologies and mine development plans, all while playing a key role in protecting the health and safety of workers in BC's vital mining industry.

About this Position :
Amendment February 12th, 2025 : posting closing date extended to February 28th, 2025.
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position can be based in any of the following locations : Kamloops, Prince George, Smithers, or Vancouver.
Depending on the successful candidate's location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Cranbrook, Kamloops, Prince George, Smithers, Vancouver and Victoria.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to four (4) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
This position is also posted as a Licensed Science Officer (Engineer) 3 via Requisition 119070 .
