Apply Now Posting Number : PC -25-15 Job Type : Permanent Full-time, Union Salary Range : $69,050.80 to $82,755.40 per year Location : Barrie, ON - Hybrid (see below for more details) Posted :  Tuesday, April 1, 2025 Application Deadline :  Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 11 : 59 pm The Opportunity The Waste Management and Environmental Sustainability Department is comprised of three Branches : Solid Waste Operations, Solid Waste Management Policy and Planning, and Environmental Risk Management and Compliance. Overall, this Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's Landfill site, which includes non-hazardous solid waste disposal, household hazardous waste receiving and disposal, leaf and yard waste disposal and composting, and solid waste collection and disposal. The Environmental Risk Management and Compliance Branch aims to minimize environmental risk associated with growth and corporate infrastructure, including Source Water Protection, climate change strategy, Sustainable Development Strategy, contaminated site response, sewer use by-law, spill response, ground water and surface water monitoring and investigations, and site plan reviews. This Department also develops and maintains strategies that promote circular economy and environmental sustainability, including waste diversion programs, sustainable waste management strategy, public outreach, and education. Under the general guidance and direction of the Manager of Environmental Risk Management and Compliance, the Risk Management Inspector is responsible for performing the statutory duties of an appointed Risk Management Inspector as prescribed under Part IV of the Clean Water Act, 2006. Specifically, this position is responsible for conducting inspections; identifying threats; issuing enforcement orders to ensure compliance; prosecuting business owners for non-compliance; providing support to and / or participating in the development of Risk Management Plans to address existing and / or future activities where there could be significant drinking water threats. Additionally, this position inputs, tracks, and maintains Source Protection Plan related activities and information utilizing various tracking documents and databases; and participates in the preparation of reports to support and ensure compliance with reporting requirements under Part IV of the Clean Water Act. Lastly, this position provides technical advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders regarding the Source Protection Plan and other branch objectives through the development process and broader education and outreach. Overall, this position plays an integral role in continually safeguarding and protecting the quality and quantity of the City's drinking water to ensure that the residents and businesses of the City of Barrie can enjoy clean and safe drinking water.   • Three (3) year College Diploma in Applied Science or Engineering, Environmental Technology, Environmental Engineering Technology or a related discipline
  • Eligibility for and willingness to obtain the Risk Management Inspector Designation through the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC)
