About Our Opportunity
We are seeking a Provincial Learning Disabilities (LD) Consultant to join our innovative and dynamic team.
As the successful LD Consultant, your primary responsibility will be leading the implementation of the Learning Disabilities Framework. This will result in increased student literacy and numeracy achievement and enhanced well-being for students in Nova Scotia.
Your focus will be collaborating to promote and enhance access to culturally and linguistically-responsive instructional practices and to lead the development and implementation of research-proven resources, initiatives, and training opportunities as part of the provincial LD framework. The successful candidate must be able to examine academic, behavioural, attentional, organizational, social-emotional, and psychosocial features of learning difficulties and learning disabilities.
As LD Consultant within the Student Services Division, you will work collaboratively with regional / board teams, including Learning Support teachers, School Psychologists, EECD colleagues, and external partners (government and community).
This role is multi-faceted and as part of the LD Framework, the LD Consultant will be tasked to assist in implementing and monitoring various initiatives in the areas of Literacy / Math / Behavior strategies, School Psychology, and the Tuition Support Program. Responsibilities also include administrative duties and related procedures including researching, reviewing and maintaining data, correspondence, reporting and carrying out other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience
As the successful candidate, you will have :
A minimum of eight (8) years of successful and recent school-based experience in the field of learning disabilities, with a focus on Learning Disabilities or Educational Psychology, or equivalent.
Experience in an education leadership role (coach / mentor, consultant, coordinator, school administration, or equivalent) is required.
Required experience includes working with teachers and school board staff in the public school system in the areas of human rights education, cultural proficiency and culturally responsive teaching.
The successful candidate will have outstanding verbal, written, communication and presentation skills, as well as excellent organizational skills, will be detailed-oriented and will have demonstrated ability to multi-task. In addition, the successful candidate will have the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups, community partners / members and colleagues. Strong decision-making and leadership skills are required.
A Bachelor degree with a Major in English, Child and Youth Study, or a related field will be considered an asset.
