We are seeking a well-rounded HR Business Partner to be part of the RTIT&D HR leadership team and to partner with Diavik leadership to deliver business objectives through fit for purpose people, organization and culture solutions. The HRBP will foster a people-centric approach to deliver a safe, productive, and innovative business. A focus on employee engagement, behaviours and culture, performance and productivity, talent and capability, leadership effectiveness and inclusion and diversity across the teams will be key to delivering this outcome.
This is a great opportunity for an established and experienced HR professional to make a real difference within this global portfolio. The Diavik Mine is transitioning to closure of its operations in mid-2026; this role affords qualified candidates the opportunity to be part of a unique period in the mine’s operations, exposing individuals to experiences few get an opportunity to be involved in, while benefiting from Rio’s global reach for opportunities beyond this role.
Although this position is based in the Yellowknife Corporate office, regular travel to the mine site will be required to engage with and become familiar with the operations and our people.

Reporting to the General manager, People, RTIT&D and working in a collaborative and challenging environment, you will be :
Translating business strategies, objectives and context into a People & Culture plan that is unique to the current phase of the mine
Engaging internally with other RT assets and colleagues to implement a talent brokering process that supports
Supporting leadership with the ongoing capability build and development of their teams
Constructively challenging and coaching leaders on their individual and collective effectiveness
Providing coaching and mentorship to the Human Resources team, ensuring team members are multi-skilled and cross-trained to better support the business
Overseeing the MyPath program, a bespoke people program focused on supporting employees in preparing for their career goals beyond Diavik, including engaging with external government and non-governmental partners to ensure supports are robust and effective
Engaging with internal partners, including the Communities and Social Performance team, to ensure commitments according to various license to operate agreements are achieved
Participate in various committees related to planning for Diavik’s closure, ensuring partners are aware, involved and prepared for the impacts
Collaborating with the broader People function across RTIT&D and RT, as well as internal service providers to deliver on identified needs within the business
Partnering with leaders to maintain employee engagement during a critical period in the life of mine
Be an active HR member and change champion within the broader People community to drive our exciting agenda on culture, talent and simplification
What you’ll bring
A commitment to the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself and your team
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field with at least 10 years of experience in similar roles
A seasoned HR background with experience collaborating within a global matrix organization to deliver fit for purpose business support
Experience in organizational design and implementation of appropriate tools and systems, organization and development interventions and employee / labour relations
An ability to translate strategy into executable and measurable outcomes
Proven ability to engage, influence and collaborate with senior leadership teams with a good application of contemporary HR systems, processes and obligations
Flexibility to work across time zones and hold a high level of integrity, confidentiality and credibility

Where you will be working
The Diavik Diamond Mine, in Canada’s Northwest Territories, is located on a 20 square kilometer island, called East Island, in Lac de Gras, a lake located 300 kilometers northeast of Yellowknife. It is 100 kilometers north of the tree line and 210 km south of the Arctic Circle. Workers at the mine site commute to the island by plane.
Our diamonds from Diavik are stunning white gems, produced to the highest possible standards of safety and integrity. At Diavik, the safety of our people is our number one priority. We will never compromise this. Having all the people who come to our mine site return home to their families and loved ones at the end of every roster or visit is our number one goal.
