Mainframe Architect -Data Center Migration Specialist

  • Location : Remote, anywhere in Canada
  • Contract Length : 12 Months

Raise is currently hiring a  Mainframe Architect -Data Center Migration Specialist  on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Mainframe Architect with deep expertise in data

center migration, on-premises setup, and iterative testing of complex financial

applications. The ideal candidate must possess in-depth knowledge of mainframe

environments and demonstrate a proven track record of successfully migrating and

establishing data centers. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, exceptional

problem-solving abilities, and advanced analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Center Migration : Architect and manage comprehensive data center migration
  • projects from legacy systems to modernized infrastructures, ensuring business

    continuity and minimal operational disruption.

  • On-Premises Setup : Design, configure, and implement robust on-premises
  • infrastructure solutions optimized for high-performance financial applications,

    adhering to stringent security and compliance requirements.

  • Testing Iterations : Develop and execute detailed test iteration plans, including unit
  • tests, integration tests, system tests, and user acceptance tests to validate the

    functionality, performance, and reliability of financial applications post-migration.

  • System Integration : Ensure seamless integration and interoperability of mainframe
  • systems with contemporary infrastructure components and third-party

    applications, leveraging APIs, middleware, and data exchange protocols.

  • High Availability Sysplex : Design and implement high availability sysplex solutions
  • to ensure continuous system operation, fault tolerance, and load balancing across

    multiple mainframe systems.

  • Documentation : Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of migration
  • strategies, setup configurations, test plans, and troubleshooting methodologies for

    knowledge transfer and future reference.

  • Collaboration : Partner closely with cross-functional teams, including IT operations,
  • cybersecurity, financial analysts, and business stakeholders, to align migration and

    setup efforts with organizational objectives and regulatory standards.

  • Risk Management : Identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks throughout the
  • migration lifecycle, implementing contingency plans to ensure data integrity and

    project success.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related
  • discipline.

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in mainframe architecture, with a focus on data
  • center migration and on-premises setup.

  • Extensive experience in developing and executing sophisticated test iterations for
  • complex financial applications, including the use of automated testing tools and

    frameworks.

  • Proficiency in mainframe technologies, including :
  • Languages : COBOL, JCL
  • Databases : DB2, IMS
  • Transaction processing : CICS
  • System management : z / OS, RACF
  • High availability : High Availability Large Database (HALDB), Parallel Sysplex
  • Performance monitoring : Tivoli, OMEGAMON
  • Advanced debugging tools : Abend-AID, Xpediter
  • Managed file transfer : IBM Sterling, Connect : Direct
  • Mainframe networking : TCP / IP, SNA application protocols
  • Encryption : IBM Cryptographic Coprocessors, TLS / SSL, PKI
  • Strong understanding of data center infrastructure components, such as SAN
  • storage, enterprise-grade servers, virtualization technologies, and high-speed

    networking.

  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead complex migration
  • initiatives from planning through execution and post-implementation support.

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on root cause
  • analysis and performance optimization.

  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, capable of engaging effectively
  • with diverse technical and non-technical teams.

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., IBM Certified System Programmer, ITIL) are highly
  • desirable.

    Preferred Skills

  • Experience with financial industry-specific applications and regulatory compliance
  • requirements.

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI / CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code (IaC)
  • tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Chef.

  • Strong scripting and automation skills, including languages like Python, REXX, Perl,
  • and shell scripting.

  • Proven ability to mentor and lead junior team members, fostering a culture of
  • continuous learning and improvement.
