About the Opportunity

Heiltsuk Tribal Council has an exciting opportunity for a Human Resources Manager (Hybrid) to join our team in Bella Bella, British Columbia (approximately 2 weeks in-community, 2 weeks working from home), on a contract basis, with the option for full-time for the right candidate.

Reporting to the CEO, you will play a pivotal role in managing all HR activities, ensuring compliance with Heiltsuk Tribal Council policies and fostering a positive work environment.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for overseeing recruitment, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, and strategic HR initiatives.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Developing and implementing effective recruiting strategies
  • Screening candidates and organizing the interview process
  • Coordinating onboarding activities
  • Mediating workplace conflicts and enhancing employee engagement
  • Designing and managing performance appraisal processes
  • Overseeing employee benefits programs
  • Ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations
  • Promoting diversity and inclusion initiatives

About You

In order to qualify for this role, you must have 5+ years of HR management experience in a non-union environment , with a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration , or a related field.

Knowledge of an HRIS and the Canada Labour Code, Employment Standards Act, Human Rights , and other applicable employment legislation will also be essential.

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

The following skills are essential to success in this role :

  • Proven ability to manage work issues with a background in peril
  • Understand and experience in employee benefits
  • Effective leadership and team management abilities
  • Demonstrated understanding of Payworks and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong employee relations and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proactive with time management, planning, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability and willingness to work and travel in-community (approximately 2 weeks in-community, 2 weeks working from home)
  • Cultural competency and knowledge of Heiltsuk traditions

About the Benefits

Upon joining us, you will be rewarded with a highly competitive starting rate of $95 per hour as a contractor , or an annual salary of $35-$40 / hr for a full-time position , with compensation negotiable based on experience.

Additionally, as a contractor, your travel and accommodation expenses will be fully covered while you are in the community, allowing you to enjoy your work and the area stress-free!
