Job description

This is a unique opportunity towork within an innovative not-for-profit, in an environment that is committedto promoting continuous learning, creativity and collaboration.

The RN provides client centred primaryhealth care services to individuals and communities who face structuralbarriers to accessing health services and who experience a wide range of acute andchronic health challenges. The RN will use a harm reduction approach whileworking with clients living in poverty, with chronic mental illness and / orsubstance use issues. They will be required to have sufficient clinical skillsand experience to independently assess clients with complex health andsocioeconomic needs while successfully functioning as part of the integratedprimary health care team.

The Nurse will be responsible for providing clientcentred care which takes into consideration the systemic barriers associatedwith poverty, mental health, substance use, histories of trauma, colonialismand gender discrimination. The successful applicant should have anunderstanding of the principles of culturally competent care and traumainformed care.

A narrow selection of the larger scope and responsibilities for theNurse position are as follows :

  • Assess and triage clients presenting with acute medical concernssuch as chest pain, respiratory difficulty, or trauma. Direct careappropriately following assessment either internally within the clinic or tothe appropriate health care setting (i.e. ER).
  • Assess and triage clients presenting with acute mental healthconcerns. Knowledge of protocols around clients presenting with suicidalideation and / or homicidal ideation.
  • Independent testing and counselling for sexually transmitted andblood borne infections. Specifically certified practice in testing, pre andpost counselling for HIV and hepatitis C.
  • Ability to provide wound assessment and care for both chronicand acute wounds.
  • Administration of publicly funded vaccines according to BCCDCguidelines.
  • Assessment and care for women’s health including providinginternal exams and knowledge of common birth control methods and medications.

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate in Nursing.
  • Two (2) years of related experience in a communitymulti-disciplinary setting with a variety of acute and chronicillnesses / diseases including :
  • Communicable Diseases.
  • Substance Use.
  • Mental Health.
  • HIV / AIDS.
  • Certified Practice for Sexually Transmitted Infections, or willingnessto take course.
  • HIV Testing and Pre / Post Test Counseling Certification (BCCDC orEquivalent) or willingness to take online course
  • Requirements

  • Currentregistration with College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC).
  • Completethe Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.

  • Hourly Wage Rate $43.99 -$61.45, commensurate with experience.
  • Work Location  713 JohnsonStreet. – Cool Aid Health Centre, and outreach locations.
  • Work Days Monday – Friday.
  • Shift Times 9 : 00am – 4 : 00pm.Includes a 30-minute paid lunch break.
  • Weekly Hours : 35 hours.
  • Union :   Exempt.
