Our Team
Pinchin is seeking an entrepreneurial, solutions-oriented professional to lead the Mechanical Engineering team in BC. In this position, you will mentor junior staff and be a senior technical advisor on complex projects.
You will develop new business, grow a specialized team of technical professionals, and help our operations remain competitive by leading our responses to changes in industry, emerging issues and client expectations.
You are always considering the big picture and have a way of breaking it down into actionable sized pieces. As the leader of this rapidly growing service line, you will collaborate with our Practice Leadership group to influence and grow Pinchin’s Mechanical Engineering department across the country.
What you will be doing at Pinchin
As an Operations Manager, you will be responsible for :
Financial and Administrative Responsibilities
- Demonstrating good business knowledge and awareness of financial implications of project decisions
- Ensuring that division budgets are prepared on time and that profit and utilization targets are met
- Tracking monthly division performance (client satisfaction; revenue / profit; accounts receivable; work in progress; billings; etc.)
- Overseeing the preparation of contract documents to Pinchin standards
Leadership and Staff Supervision
- Ensuring the well-being and safety of Pinchin employees at work sites
- Supervising employees and monitoring their job proficiency and quality
- Mentoring and supervising senior, intermediate and junior level staff
- Reviewing technical reports
- Coordinating group resources, including employee allocation, equipment control and maintenance, weekend resources, vacation scheduling, etc.
- Providing technical assistance to employees
- Liaise between Clients and Pinchin employees
- Ensuring employees are trained in, and maintain, company procedures and programs
- Working with employees to develop and set annual goals for professional growth
Coordination of Project Activities
- Developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients, contractors and regulatory body representatives
- Developing schedules and assigning work to employees as appropriate
- Coordinating work and client contacts with other groups within the Company
- Maintaining relationships with various contractors and other vendors
Business Development
- Engaging in business development; build and maintain client relationships and monitor industry trends
- Attending trade shows, professional associations / events and provide presentations and / or seminars as required to promote Pinchin’s profile
Maintaining Quality Control
- Reviewing the work of employees and colleagues to ensure it meets the established standards
- Making suggestions to continually improve work quality, for both self and team
What you bring to the Pinchin team
- A minimum of 10 years of mechanical design experience working on medium to large scale, commercial and residential projects in the province of British Columbia.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer with The Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
- Demonstrated experience developing business and client relationships in relevant industries within the BC market.
- Previous consulting experience is a must for this role.
- 5 plus years of proven experience in managing operations, including resource planning, budgeting, and process optimization.
- Strong client relationship management skills with a demonstrated ability to develop new and grow existing relationships.
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication and technical writing skills.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor a diverse team.
- Proficiency in project management software, AutoCAD, IES, Trace software, and other relevant tools.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to various client sites locally and to adjacent provinces
