Position Summary
Emergency Preparedness Specialist, Patient Experience and Quality Team
In collaboration with the manager, The Emergency Preparedness and Risk Specialist will conduct system level planning, analysis and implementation of NYGH’s Emergency Management and Business Continuity Programs in order to protect the organization’s ability to provide patient care during an emergency.
They are accountable for developing training programs for staff at all levels, and are responsible for ensuring compliance with Accreditation Standards regarding Emergency Preparedness.
On a practical level, you will
Be a subject matter expert and key consultant for Emergency Management; the corporate Emergency Management Committee; and the development of plans across NYGH for Emergency Codes.
Develop and review of Emergency Management codes, relevant policies and procedures; ensuring alignment with key legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and lead training programs using a variety of methodologies (simulation, table top, etc.) to support emergency preparedness and business continuity activities across all levels of the organization.
- Serve as a subject matter resource for organizational business continuity through the development of the organizations Business Continuity Plan, and to provide subject matter expertise regarding planned downtimes for Facilities, Redevelopment, Information Services, etc.
- Support NYGH’s Administration On-Call process for leaders by developing policies and guidelines to support leaders when on-call and to conduct training and education regarding the on-call process.
- Facilitate activation of and support for Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) infrastructure, including management of EOC carts and critical equipment.
Lead debriefing sessions and the monitoring EOC activities.
Serve as a key subject matter expert and liaison for the hospital in key external partnerships (e.g. provincial, municipal and regional services, committees, including the provincial Emergency Management Communication Tool (EMCT).
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a University Degree in Health Sciences, Public Health, Emergency Management or related discipline, or approved equivalent combination of education and experience required .
- Minimum five (5) years in emergency preparedness management experience, preferably within a Healthcare setting required.
- Working knowledge of the Incident Management System (IMS) for emergency preparedness required.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Visio, excellent communication skills required.
- IMS Certification, PMP or Lean Certification preferred.
- Project management experience is an asset.
- Excellent planning, analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage tasks accordingly.
- Effective organizational, interpersonal, leadership, judgment, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability in interpersonal, diplomacy, coaching, facilitation and team building skills.
