Position Purpose : Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising the mechanical and electrical services groups (employees and third-party contractors) to provide top quality maintenance services to all manufacturing and facilities areas while working within an approved budget and maintaining a preventative maintenance program to prevent excessive machine downtime.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Performs all work in a safety-first mentality and enforces all safety rules, procedures and policies as determined by legislation or company policy including :

Employee safety contacts

  • Daily safety inspections
  • Completion of safety action items in a timely manner
  • Supervise all Maintenance personnel, including people management responsibilities such as attendance and discipline tracking, timekeeping / payroll tasks, requests for time off, interpretation of the Collective Agreement.
  • Develop a culture of : Integrity, Passion, Teamwork and Performance Excellence within the Maintenance Team.
  • Schedule and assign work to maintenance crew from daily schedule and review with Operations to optimize efficiencies.
  • In partnership with the Manufacturing Manager, implement and improve the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program by encouraging cooperation between the maintenance team and operations team. This will include :
  • Reviewing breakdown issues (avoiding repeat breakdowns)

  • Reviewing OEM recommendations
  • Coordinate shutdowns and changeovers so maximum use can be made of downtime
  • Ensuring that employee tasks are scheduled and completed on time
  • In partnership with the Manufacturing Manager, prepare and update workplans and schedules for all major equipment shutdowns
  • Include PM and planned maintenance tasks

  • Showing employees assigned to each task
  • Estimated time to complete each task
  • Ensuring all required parts are in stock and ready before the shutdown
  • Implement and maintain a comprehensive spare part management program
  • Active leader in the Intertape Performance System (IPS)
  • Prepare regular reports such as the weekly schedule compliance, downtime summaries, equipment failure investigation and PM compliance
  • Review equipment breakdowns with maintenance personnel and follow up as required to :
  • Ensure all required parts are ordered

  • Ensure all parts are sent out for repairs (motors, machine shop work, etc)
  • Property repair temporary "fixes"
  • Determine if stock levels or required parts are correct
  • Implement and maintain 5S standards according to IPG 5S protocols
  • Account for the time and material charges covering all maintenance personnel
  • Assist the Process Engineer with projects
  • Set up maintenance agreements with local contractors
  • Provide requisitions for special materials, supplies and spare parts not normally stocked
  • Ordering and management of plant supplies, acting as a backup for Supply Chain Supervisor.
  • Ensure that maintenance standards are met by all Maintenance personnel.
  • Train mechanical and electrical trainees in the proper use of tools and how to fabricate and maintain plant machinery and equipment.
  • Provide backup to the Process Engineer as required or requested.

  • Essential Skills and Experience

  • A graduate of an Engineering Technologist or Technician program with several years' experience in a manufacturing environment and / or certified industrial electrician or millwright.
  • Minimum of three years' experience of supervision in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong team building and leadership skills.
  • Experience in a unionized environment an asset.
  • Understanding of the operation of mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical repair methods.
  • Experience in managing spare parts inventories.
  • Strong computer skills (previous experience with Word, Excel, Access databases, AutoCAD, AS400 and a CMMS package.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
