Position Summary

At the Toronto Design Centre, our Product Development teams provide solutions to our customers through the design and development of AC-DC and DC-DC power supplies.  In this role, you will :

  • Perform design, design verification and validation testing on AC-DC and DC-DC power supply products throughout the various stages of the design process
  • Provide troubleshooting and failure analysis of analog and power conversion circuits.
  • Have an opportunity to grow toward an Intermediate Design Engineering position

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Design and simulation of various AC / DC and DC / DC converters.
  • Testing and troubleshooting of board level circuits, power converters, control boards, and protection circuits.
  • Perform schematic entry, calculations, simulations, & bread-boarding in the design process
  • Preferably work with microcontrollers for firmware modifications
  • Perform non-automated tests and evaluations on operating analog circuitry using discrete test equipment.
  • Set up, debug, and monitor standard and specialized test equipment to verify and analyze the performance of electrical and electronic components and assemblies.
  • The incumbent must have a strong knowledge of analog electronic components, and their limitations and be able to analyze circuit behaviour.
  • Applicants must know, in detail, the definitions and application impact of specified parameters of BJT’s, MOSFET’s, diodes, opamps, and comparators.

    Education

    Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering

    Experience Required

  • Electrical / Electronic Engineering Degree
  • Engineer = PEO Licensed

  • Designer = Degree OR Equivalent Work Experience.
  • Minimum of 1year electronic circuitry troubleshooting to the component level (preferably with power conversion products)
  • Strong knowledge in switching power supplies AC / DC, DC / DC with various topologies (Full-Bridge, Half-Bridge, Forward, Boost, Flyback, Soft Switching, Bridgeless PFC, synchronous rectification, current sharing, etc.) and knowledge in resonant converter such as LLC, LCC converters.
  • Sound knowledge of control theory and their implementations
  • Strong knowledge in magnetics. Inductors, transformers and EMI filters.
  • Demonstrated understanding of analog electronic circuits.
  • Sound knowledge of power electronic components, their characteristics, and specifications.
  • Demonstrated hands-on skills in debugging and repairing analog circuitry to the component level using discrete (not automated) test equipment
  • Strong demonstrated understanding of electronic measurement instruments and techniques.
  • Demonstrated understanding of analog electronic circuits with mathematical analysis skills
  • Good hands-on skills for electronic bread-boarding and mechanical assembly / modification
  • Experience performing product qualification testing (i.e. electrical parameter measurements, EMI / EMC, safety, HALT, mechanical shock and vibration, demonstrated life tests, accelerated stress tests, etc.)
  • Familiarity with environmental test chambers, thermal, temperature / humidity, HALT. Etc.)
  • Proven documentation skills and familiarity with standard PV office and CAD software.
  • Physical Requirements

  • 90% of time sedentary – working at desk and workbench
  • 5% of time lifting, carrying equipment – maximum weight 25 pounds
  • 5% of time working in confined spaces (racks / chambers)

    This position is an on-site role, with 1 flex day per week of remote work.
