POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director, Broker Placement is responsible for leading and managing the broker placement team within Waypoint's insurance brokerage firm. This senior leadership role involves strategic oversight of insurance placements, relationship management with carriers, and ensuring the delivery of optimal insurance solutions to clients. The Director will play a critical role in driving business growth by developing and implementing placement strategies that align with the company's goals. Reporting to the VP, Commercial Insurance, the Director will collaborate closely with other senior leaders to achieve strategic objectives. This role will be hybrid with a location preference of Vancouver, BC.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Management
- Demonstrate the company's values through exceptional customer service and drive business relationships.
- Mentor and manage the broker placement team, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Enhance the expertise of the sales and sales support teams in insurance technical skills, including coverage, wordings, business risk, and market intelligence.
- Set clear performance goals for the team and provide regular feedback and development opportunities.
- Develop and implement effective placement strategies to achieve company objectives.
Strategic Planning
Formulate and execute strategic plans for broker placement operations that align with overall business goals.Analyze market trends and develop strategies to capitalize on emerging opportunities.Collaborate with senior management to set targets and drive business growth.Client & Carrier Relations
Build and maintain strong relationships with key insurance carriers to negotiate favorable terms and conditions.Serve as a primary point of contact for high-value clients, ensuring their needs are met and expectations exceeded.Address and resolve complex client and carrier issues to ensure satisfaction and retention.Present technical information, capabilities, and expertise to clients effectively.Policy Placement Oversight
Oversee the placement of insurance policies, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely execution.Ensure the team conducts thorough risk assessments and provides clients with optimal coverage options.Monitor placement activities to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and company standards.Financial Management
Develop and manage the broker placement budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.Analyze financial performance and report on key metrics to senior management.Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements within the broker placement function.Market Intelligence
Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and the competitive landscape.Provide insights and recommendations to senior management based on market intelligence.Represent the company at industry events and conferences to enhance the firm's reputation and network.Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with other departments, including underwriting, claims, sales, and sales support, to deliver comprehensive insurance solutions.Facilitate effective communication within the team and across the organization to ensure alignment and coordination.Prepare and present reports on placement activities, performance, and strategic initiatives to senior management.REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field required.Relevant certifications such as CIP or CAIB are preferred.Minimum of 8 years of experience in an insurance brokerage or insurance company.Significant experience in a leadership role within insurance.Proven track record in strategic planning, negotiation, and relationship management.Strong leadership and team management skills with a focus on fostering a high-performance culture.Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.Superior negotiation and communication skills.Proficiency in insurance software and Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships.Waypoint is actively committed to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
