Location : Richmond, BC (Hybrid) | Salary : $135,000 – $175,000

About the Role

We are seeking a Lead Data Scientist to lead the development of AI / ML solutions for geoscience, focusing on multi-physics data integration, large language models (LLMs), and advanced neural networks. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and play a critical role in advancing cutting-edge product offerings in the mining and geoscience sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop AI / ML models for geoscience applications, integrating geophysical, geological, and geochemical data.
  • Design and deploy LLMs, generative AI, and neural networks for predictive modeling and data analysis.
  • Mentor data scientists and drive innovation through collaboration with geoscientists and engineers.
  • Stay updated on AI / ML advancements and apply them to subsurface exploration challenges.

First 90 Days

  • Familiarize with current AI / ML projects and workflows.
  • Define a strategic roadmap for AI / ML initiatives.
  • Deliver quick wins showcasing AI / ML’s impact on geoscience solutions.
  • Must-Haves

  • 10+ years in AI / ML or data science , with experience in geoscience, geology, or geophysics.
  • Significant experience in geoscience, geology, geophysics, geochemistry, or multi-physics integration
  • Expertise in neural networks , generative AI, LLMs, and frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Strong programming skills ( Python, R, or Julia ) and familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Proven technical leadership and success in delivering impactful AI / ML solutions.
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science , Computer Science, or related fields.
  • Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with geospatial tools (QGIS, ArcGIS) or 3D platforms (Leapfrog).
  • Familiarity with CI / CD pipelines, uncertainty quantification, and time-series analysis.
