Job description

Maderra is currently seeking a qualified individual for the position of HSE Advisor - Marine and Offshore Construction in St. John's, NL.

This position is primarily office based with occasional travel offshore.

Located in St. John's, NL, Maderra provides project management, project services, engineering, technical and personnel services to the Energy, Resource, and Commercial sectors. Responsibilities :

  • The main role of the Marine and Offshore Construction HSE Advisor is to support the WWRP project team and contractors in planning and conducting safe offshore operations.
  • Ensure that the project has all safety plans and regulatory approvals in place prior to each offshore scope commencing.
  • Provide technical and functional HSE support for the marine and offshore construction scope(s) for the West White Rose Platform Project.
  • Conduct verification and assurance activities that will help ensure that WWRP marine and construction contractors are meeting regulatory compliance, operations integrity objectives and health, safety and environmental (HSE) performance goals. These goals and objectives will be aligned with the Operations Integrity Management System (COIMS) and the Project's Health, Safety, Environment and Security (HSES) Standards.
  • Prepare regulatory application documentation such as C-NLOPB safety plans.
  • Prepare safety management system bridging documentation.
  • Conduct regulatory compliance gap assessments.
  • Conduct audits and inspections of marine vessels using the company-based compliance verification tools.
  • Conduct and / or review quality of incident investigations.
  • Audit performance of contractor's safety management system.
  • Coach and mentor contractor reps in regulatory requirements, safety management and safe work practices.
  • Participate in hazard identification and risk assessment sessions.

Requirements :

  • Post-secondary education in the field of Health Safety and Environmental Science and / or Occupational Health and Safety Certificate / Diploma or Degree from a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
  • Professional safety designation such as CRSP, CSP, ROH, or ROHT would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years specific experience in a prior HSE role including direct responsibility for the administration of Health, Safety and Environment management programs for the offshore industry.
  • The individual in this position will exhibit the following organizational competencies : Safely drives results, enables agility, communicates with impact, fosters collaboration.
  • The individual is self-motivated to ensure the timely completion of project requirements.
  • Ability to conduct audits and inspections, in addition to conducting and reviewing quality of incident investigations.
  • Possess excellent computer skills and proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of local regulatory requirements including C-NLOPB and Transport Canada.
  • Extensive knowledge of best practice safety management processes.
