Position Title : Senior Technology Specialist, Core Systems Developer Reports To : Technology Manager
Department : Individual IT Term : Permanent Full-Time
Work Arrangements : This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month.
You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.
The Opportunity : Equitable is growing! We are looking for a Senior Technology Specialist, Core Systems Developer to join our Individual IT team!
This role will be part of a larger team developing and supporting application solutions for our Individual Insurance lines of business.
Your activities will include designing, developing, documenting, testing, and implementing changes to our core systems while working closely with business and technology colleagues who collaborate with agility.

What you will be doing :
- Design, program and test high-performance, scalable applications and database solutions
- Work closely with product owners, business partners and platform gurus to build working applications to meet our business goals
- Investigate and solve production problems with minimal to no guidance
- Make recommendations when new technologies should be used
What you will bring :
- A strong technical background with at least 7 years of experience in :
- Cobol (Micro Focus Cobol would be an asset)
- Microsoft SQL Server and Transact SQL
- Ingenium (3 to 5 years)
- To be highly motivated team player who is a strong individual contributor
- A laser-focus on achieving outcomes through regular releases of working software that is easy to maintain
- To continually improve delivery and release practices to deliver quality software and reduce cycle time of release
- Effective verbal and written communications, with an ability to effectively convey information, concepts, and ideas to others
- Degree or diploma in Computer Science or a related field
