Job description

Reporting to the Senior Director Compliance, the EHS Manager, working with all departments, is responsible for the planning, implementation, and enforcement of DEW Engineering’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures. Without limiting the preceding, this includes :

  • Managing all Environmental Compliance activities as required by Federal, Provincial, and Municipal entities for facilities in Ontario and New Brunswick as well as all Health and Safety activities for our Ontario facility.
  • Identifying relevant legislation, ensuring regulatory compliance and making recommendations for improvements to processes.
  • Reviewing existing and new equipment / process acquisitions for environmental and Health and safety impacts and providing support to ensure that new hazardous materials are not introduced into our processes or products.
  • Providing Environmental, Health and Safety onboarding and training as required by company policy and regulatory authorities.
  • Managing and improving the facility’s Environmental, Health and Safety Management systems, based on ISO 14001 and 45001.
  • Performing audits to ensure regulatory compliance and conformance to OHS and EMS requirements.
  • Planning, implementing, and coordinating programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and regulatory risk.
  • Cochairing the Joint Health and Safety Committee ensuring that legislated requirements are met.
  • Identifying and appraising conditions which could produce accidents and liability; proactively developing strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Developing accident-prevention programs for incorporation into operational policies of the Organization.
  • Coordinating departmental Health and Safety activities to ensure implementation of Health and Safety activities throughout the Organization.
  • Reporting to the Organization and to Regulatory bodies in a timely fashion.
  • Devising methods to evaluate safety programs and conducting or directing evaluations.
  • Evaluating current best practices concerning safety management and participating in activities of related professional organizations to update knowledge of safety program developments.
  • Maintain Environmental Aspects and Impacts Register, SDS Database, waste manifests and other records.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies or comparable experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an Environment, Health and Safety role.
  • Strong working knowledge of OHSA, Environmental regulations as applicable to a manufacturing organization.
  • Proficient in multiple software applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other industry related software (SDS, Injury Management, etc.).
  • Proficient in internal and external networking.
  • Able to perform detail-oriented tasks utilizing high language and math skills.
  • Requires advanced understanding of all applicable local, provincial and federal regulations, with demonstrated ability to read and interpret all environmental, health and safety regulations.
