Job description

The Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club (“the Club”) is the city’s premier racquets, fitness, and social Club. Located just a few minutes from downtown, the Club offers exceptional tennis, badminton, squash, fitness and aquatics programming for over 4,000 members, along with a variety of social events with upscale-casual dining in 3 restaurants.

We are recruiting for Seasonal Part-time Lifeguards / Swimming Instructors to join our team for the Spring 2025 season.

Start Date : March 10th, 2025 (training), April (lessons / lifeguarding)

Wage is : $21.00 to $24.00 per hour based on experience.

OVERVIEW :

All aquatics team members are required to have both lifeguarding and swim instructor certifications. Due to the size of our pool, there are times that we operate with one lifeguard on duty at a time. You will provide supervision, prevention of injury and rules enforcement for the pool area and will act as the first aid attendant for our busy, multi-sport facility. You will provide safe, fun and effective swimming lessons for members of all ages and abilities from infants to adults in group, semi-private, and private lessons.

Successful candidates will be available for at least 2 of the following weekly shift times :

  • Monday-Friday 2 : 00 pm - 9 : 00 pm
  • Saturday-Sunday 9 : 00 am - 9 : 00 pm

We have a heated outdoor pool. You must be comfortable working in all weather conditions. Lifeguard shifts and swimming lessons run rain or shine! Successful candidates may be required to complete a wet screen and be available to start work asap.

RESPONSIBILITIES : Lifeguard :

bull; Use skills learned in NLS to provide a safe environment for all members.

bull; Strictly but courteously enforce all pool / club rules and regulations.

bull; Control the pool environment to prevent accidents.

bull; Perform daily maintenance tasks as required to keep pool and pool area clean and tidy.

bull; Be a confident first aid responder for accidents at the pool and all areas of the Club.

Swimming Instructor :

bull; Use skills learned in Swim for Life course to teach swim lessons to all levels in a fun and safe environment

bull; Evaluate students to assess the correct level

bull; Adapt lesson plans to effectively meet the needs of all swimmers

bull; Prepare lesson plans and participate fully in classes with students

bull; Maintain accurate and thorough records and communicate confidently with parents, participants, and the Aquatics Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES :

All certifications must remain current or lifeguards / instructors will not be permitted to work.

bull; NLS

bull; CPR-C / AED

bull; Standard First Aid

bull; Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor

bull; Life Saving Instructor (not required but is an asset)

bull; A minimum of 1 year lifeguarding / instructing experience

bull; Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly and confidently.

bull; Customer service focus : the ability to maintain professionalism under pressure with members and peers.

bull; Pro-active and self-motivated; the ability to remain engaged and alert in a repetitive environment.

bull; Calm, quick thinking and solution-oriented.

bull; Proven ability to work autonomously while maintaining a collaborative, team focus.
