Nature and Scope of Work
This is driving work involving the responsibility for operating a shuttle bus to transport seniors in areas of Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta. The work involves the operation of a shuttle bus in a safe and professional manner overseeing all traffic laws and safety rules according to City requirements and adhering to time schedules. Although the majority of time is spent engaged in driving, the incumbent is also responsible for interacting with seniors, providing assistance to senior passengers with embarking and disembarking the shuttle bus including loading mobility devices, ensuring passenger safety, arranging for pick up and drop off and tracking all trips. A superior issues oral assignments which require the use of some independent judgement in making field decisions. Although the work is normally performed without immediate supervision, it is reviewed and evaluated in terms of the care exercised in operating a shuttle bus and the results and achievement of desired objectives.
Illustrative Examples of Work
- Drives and operates a shuttle bus in a safe and professional manner overseeing all traffic laws and safety rules according to City requirements; adheres to time schedules; organizes and drives routes in areas of Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta.
- Assists senior passengers with embarking and disembarking the shuttle bus including loading mobility devices and providing stand by assistance as required.
- Ensures all passengers are properly seated and belted at all times while on the shuttle bus; answers inquiries, provides information; makes general announcements to assist passengers; and arranges for passenger pick up and drop off as necessary.
- Completes shuttle bus inspection prior to and after shifts; ensures shuttle bus is maintained as scheduled.
- Completes a daily log book; tracks all trips.
- Conducts safety checks; reports any incidents involving safety and / or service.
- Fuels, washes, and cleans shuttle bus.
- Maintains office records and other material related to the work using a computer terminal; attends meetings and training sessions as required.
- Maintains liaison with other shuttle bus drivers, bus schedulers, internal and external contacts.
- Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
Desirable Training and Experience
Completion of Grade 12 including or supplemented by experience working with persons with physical disabilities or challenges and / or seniors, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
