The organization is focused on harnessing Newfoundland & Labrador’s wind energy to develop the fuel of the future. World Energy GH2’s Project Nujio’qonik aims to be North America’s first commercial green hydrogen / ammonia producer created from 3+ Gigawatts of wind energy in one of the world’s best wind resource regions. As World Energy GH2 focuses on progressing various project development milestones, advancing this new industry in Canada, and contributing to climate change mitigation on a large scale, an outstanding team is required to support and develop this innovative project.
Reporting to the Director of Environment & Sustainability, the Environmental Compliance Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Project Nujio’qonik adheres to the highest standards and practices to ensure operations align with World Energy GH2’s commitment to environmental protection, conservation, and sustainability. Additional responsibilities include :
Environmental Compliance & Sustainability Strategies
- Assist with compliance for approved Environmental Assessment conditions and all relevant environmental regulations, permits, and standards;
- Collaborate with the engineering project team to identify permitting and regulatory compliance requirements for construction and operation;
- Develop and implement comprehensive environmental and sustainability strategies aligned with project goals and industry standards; and
- Ensure permits are in place and on time for individual construction work packages.

As the ideal candidate, you possess a master’s degree in a related field, such as Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or Natural Resource Management; a minimum of five to seven years of leadership experience in environmental management or sustainability, with specific experience in construction projects; and / or equivalent education and experience.
You demonstrate a proven knowledge and understanding of sustainability frameworks, environmental regulations and permitting processes specific to Newfoundland & Labrador. You have technical proficiency in environmental assessment methodologies, environmental impact assessment (EIA), environmental monitoring and reporting, sustainability reporting, and environmental management systems (EMS). You have experience in project management, including planning, organizing, and coordinating environmental and sustainability initiatives, ensuring compliance with project timelines, budgets, and objectives.
You have strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex environmental issues and develop effective solutions. You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate complex environmental concepts and regulations to diverse stakeholders, including project teams, regulatory agencies, community groups, and the public. Additionally, you demonstrate commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. Some travel to the west coast of Newfoundland and Labrador is required.
