Parkland County has an opportunity for a permanent, full-time Fire Prevention Officer position in the Fire Services department.

Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief, Training, the Fire Prevention Officer is responsible for the operational delivery of the Fire Quality Management Plan.

The Fire Prevention Officer leads the life safety program and coordinates a team of paid-on-call Safety Codes Officers to conduct preliminary plan and document reviews prior to development / permit approval, inspects businesses for their compliance with the National Fire Code (Alberta Edition) requirements, and investigate reportable fires.

This position is responsible for ensuring the completion of written inspection and investigation reports and data entry in the Fire Services records management system.

The Fire Prevention Officer additionally acts as a key liaison to industry, the public and County staff.

This position will provide emergency response services, act in an assigned role with the Parkland County Incident Management Team and perform other duties as required.

This position may act as the on-call duty officer supporting fire operations on a rotational basis, as required.

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following : High school diploma or equivalent.

A combination of education and experience in Fire Services operations and fully certified with the following : Safety Codes Officer – Fire Group B2, C2, NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter II, NFPA 1002 Apparatus Operator (Pump), Blue Card Command IC Certification.

NFPA 1042 Fire Service Instructor I, FI-210 Wildfire Cause and Origin Investigation, and ICS 300 certifications are considered an asset.

A minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of Comprehensive knowledge of the National Fire Code (Alberta Edition) and related codes, standards, and regulations.

A minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of comprehensive knowledge of Alberta’s Safety Codes System and related acts, regulations, and legislated processes.

Ability to write technical reports, issue Orders, Refusals, and Variances in accordance with the Safety Codes Act.

Demonstrated ability to be professional, self-motivated, and can work independently in a team environment, and have excellent coordination, work scheduling, and time management skills.

The ability to provide leadership and guidance to small teams of staff, both full-time and paid on call, in the completion of technical duties.

Current Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Check is required prior to the start of employment, completed at employee’s expense.

Possession of a valid class 3 with air brakes driver’s license and satisfactory commercial driving record.

Standard First Aid Level C and CPR.   The total rewards package for this position includes : A starting annual salary of $90,500 to $97,900 with a maximum earning potential for this pay range of $ 114,500, based on a 40-hour work week and option to join the Earned Day Off Program.
