About the Role
The Recreation Programmer reports to the Therapeutic Recreation Manager / Recreation Manager or designate. The Recreation Programmer supports the implementation and evaluation of activity programs to meet the holistic needs and interests of persons served, while maintaining the rights of residents and ensuring they are treated with respect and dignity.
Responsibilities
Include but not limited to;
- Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
- Promotes, publicizes and carries out established recreation programs such as outings, exercises, crafts, social events, entertainment, games.
- Assists residents and provide portering to and from programs as required
- Observes, documents and reports any changes in residents to the supervisor and / or nurse.
- Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through : accident prevention, knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations, the safe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs are necessary, and utilizing infection control procedures
- Maintains appropriate documentation as per policy and procedures, confidentiality and security.
- Actively participates in orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees and educational in-services.
- Assists in the maintenance of statistical records using programs such as Activity Pro, Point Click Care, etc.
- Assists with orientation of new residents and encourages residents to participate or volunteer in their own community.
- Provides guidance, assistance and support to volunteers. Assists in the evaluation of volunteers.
- Performs other related duties as required.
