Job description

Purpose :

Glendon Student Financial Services is the main source of financial support and assistance for students at the Glendon campus of York University. Our goal is to ensure that all Glendon students have the required funds to successfully complete their studies, and to help them acquire skills in financial literacy that they can use in their personal and academic life. The Glendon Student Financial Services Advisor advocates for and assists students in navigating the policies and procedures that relate to their student accounts at the university, their YU-CARD and related services / activities, financial aid programs offered at Glendon and York, and programs offered by strategic external partners and by governments â?? notably, the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). The incumbent accurately evaluates and processes various government financial aid and university award applications in compliance with applicable regulations and established guidelines. This position is responsible for reviewing students' various accounts to resolve inconsistencies, handling appeals, reviews or exceptional requests, processing and issuing funds, and assessing students' financial eligibility to continue their studies. The incumbent also works collaboratively with the Manager, Glendon SFS and other colleagues within the university in developing materials to promote and provide outreach on key subjects that relate to awards offered to students, opportunities to access financial aid, financial literacy, and student engagement. The incumbent assists in the administration of Glendon awards and in evaluation activities that related to strategic enrolment management (SEM).

Education : Experience :

One to two years recent related experience in a bilingual post-secondary institution preferably in a high volume student service area. Must have experience providing and interpreting complex information to others, presenting information to groups and individuals, advising students, and answering detailed inquiries. Experience in financial setting preferred

Skills :

Proficiency at intermediate level in Microsoft suite of applications including Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint. Demonstrated skill in : analyzing and evaluating situation and solving problems. superior oral and written communication skills. dealing courteously, tactfully and effectively with people. ability to deal with aggressive students in calm manor. retrieve information from online records systems such as SIS / STAC / PES and OSAP databank. exercise judgment and flexibility, exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality. work independently under pressure of high volume and multiple priorities. reliability and punctuality required. Familiarity with OSAP, Prêt et bourses de Quebec, other loan programs and cashiering functions. Bilingual module I (Advanced) and IV (Advanced).
