Victoria or Vancouver, BC
Located in either beautiful Victoria or Vancouver, BC (with a preference for Victoria), this is a unique opportunity to lead and evolve a highly-skilled cyber security function for one of Canada’s most dynamic investment organizations.
With over $250.4 billion of gross assets under management, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is one of the largest institutional investors in Canada. BCI employs over 750 people across offices in Victoria, Vancouver, New York and London. Being recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, Canada’s Top Family-Friendly Employers, Canada’s Top Employers for Young People and BC’s Top Employers exemplifies BCI’s ongoing commitment to be a progressive workplace of choice.
In recent years, BCI has made significant strides in modernizing its technology environment—advancing cloud adoption, implementing enterprise-grade applications, and improving infrastructure resilience. With a solid foundation now in place, the organization is shifting its focus toward scaling innovation, accelerating transformation, and embedding cyber security into the core of its digital and business strategies. This evolution is driven by the conviction that security must be both rigorous and enabling—a trusted function that protects the enterprise while supporting speed, agility, and user-centric design.
To lead this next phase, BCI is seeking a Vice President, Cyber Security—a seasoned and service-oriented leader who will be responsible for defining and executing the organization's forward-looking cyber strategy. Reporting to the SVP, Technology & Innovation and Chief Technology Officer, the Vice President will oversee a technically strong team of ~11 and lead a portfolio of cyber initiatives that safeguard BCI’s operations, reputation, and global workforce. They will serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Management Team and Board of Directors, fostering a culture of security awareness, innovation, and resilience.
The ideal candidate is a security leader with proven experience leading a modern, future-focused cyber security function within a dynamic complex organization. Specific expertise in Zero Trust security models, quantum computing security implications, modern threat intelligence frameworks and experience integrating AI, machine learning and automation in cyber security operations would be ideal. In this high-profile leadership role, the Vice President will need to be a visionary thought leader capable of quickly building trust and credibility with the Board and Management team at BCI while working collaboratively across all areas of the business. This role requires someone who understands cutting-edge cyber security frameworks and technologies, and can translate them into practical, business-aligned outcomes.
BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.
The annualized base salary range for this role based in Victoria is CAD $180,000-$230,000.
The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.
We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.
Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
