Duties

Duties while assigned to the RCMP’s Occupational Health and Safety Services :

  • Actively support the deployment of a new mental health screening program for RCMP officers and provide referral assistance. We like to call this a check-up on their mental health vital signs
  • Develop and deploy psychoeducational content to support the mental health screening program. Content that includes promoting resilience and proactive strategies to bolster mental health in officers.
  • Work closely within a team of professionals in Occupational Health Services, to ensure officer mental health is in-tact.
  • Build a trusting relationship with our RCMP officers so that they are comfortable seeking mental health support when needed.
  • Assist RCMP occupational health services in meeting other responsibilities when needed (ex. critical incident response and support).
  • Engage in outreach activities and support research initiatives that bolster officer mental health

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill 1 - PS-04-PSY-04 indeterminate vacancy in Newmarket, Ontario. A pool of candidates may be established to staff same or similar positions at various locations.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education :

Graduation with a master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in personnel psychology, psychometrics, industrial psychology, clinical psychology or some other specialty relevant to the position.

Note : The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Occupational Certification

Registration for autonomous practice of psychology by a province or territorial registering / licensing body in Canada.

Experience :

  • Experience with provision of psychological services such as screening for mental health, psychodiagnostic and personality assessment, brief interventions, with adults, etc.;
  • Experience liaising with external mental health providers and specialists

    Experience developing and deploying psychoeducational content.

    Knowledge :

    Knowledge of the theories and ethical principles guiding the professional practice of psychology.

    Knowledge of principles and applications of psychological services (including mental health services), such as assessment, treatment, programs and crisis intervention, with an adult population.

    Ability to provide psychological services (including mental health services), such as assessment, treatment, programs and crisis intervention, with an adult population.

    Ability to work under pressure.

    Ability to review and analyze medical information and provide appropriate and relevant recommendations.

    Graduation with a PhD degree from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in clinical adult psychology or forensic psychology.

    Experience in forensic psychology

    Experience in working with policing or paramilitary agencies

    Experience in working in a multidisciplinary team approach in an occupational health context.

    Operational Requirements

    Certificate of Registration Authorizing Autonomous Practice as a Psychologist or Psychological Associate in Ontario.

    Willingness to work overtime

    Valid driver's license

    Successful candidates will require a valid RCMP security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain an RCMP security clearance may involve but is not limited to a security / reliability interview and a field investigation which includes matters of criminal activity, verification of credit / financial status, reference checks, education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.

    Reference checks may be sought.

    An interview may be administered.

    A test may be administered.

    A situational exercise may be administered.

    Indeterminate employees at the same group and level or equivalent will be considered for deployment. If no deployment is made, applicants from other groups and levels will be considered in the advertised appointment process.
